Course Description

This course provides a comprehensive understanding of radiation safety concerns for the UMass Lowell Research Reactor, with an emphasis on practical experience. Students will become familiar with reactor radiation courses, and the theory and operation of survey meters used to assess radiation levels, radiation dose,and the effectiveness of radiation shielding. Students also will become familiar with regulatory standards for protection against radiation, reactor instrumentation, radiation safety procedures, protective clothing, and personnel dosimetry. (offered as 98.566 for graduate credit)
