Course Description

This course introduces students to the study of writing, literature, and culture in the digital environment and to skills necessary for courses in the English Studies option. The course will introduce students to the fundamentals of Digital literacy and citizenship, including tools and skills only made possible in the digital environment. Students will read a variety of texts and write in a variety of genres. The course also introduces students to literary and cultural criticism, including close reading skills, various critical approaches, and the practical application of these skills. Emphasis will be placed on the research and writing processes, using MLA-style documentation. The course will also introduce students to the fields of creative writing, journalism, and professional writing.
