Course Description

This course provides a historical frame of reference for understanding such important political, legal, and socio-cultural issues as the relationship between ethnic identity and statehood, the construction of citizenship and territoriality, immigration, the social origins and political implications of diverse forms of nationalism, the status of ethnic minorities, and the relationship between individual and collective identity in the construction of human rights. It will be especially useful for studsents majoring in European history, international relations, political science, legal studies, and sociology.
