Applying into a Graduate Degree Program
This program's priority deadlines are:
- March 1 for Summer and Fall admission
- November 1 for Spring admission
Applications received after the deadline, if there are openings, will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
All applicants must submit:
- An application
- An application fee ($50)
- A statement of purpose that briefly highlights relevant work history and immediate and long-term professional goals as an advanced-practice nurse. Written statements should be congruent with the specialty tracks offered at UMass-Lowell (FNP or AGNP) and demonstrate an understanding of the scope of the advanced practice nurse in ambulatory, long-term care settings
- Two letters of recommendation
- A resume
- A copy of your current registered nursing license from the state where you practice. Out of state RN licenses are accepted for application review, but all accepted students will need to obtain Massachusetts License prior to practicum courses
- Official transcripts
- International Students: International transcripts demonstrating completion of a degree require a credential evaluation from a NACES agency such as:
- Official test scores
- GRE not required
- If English is NOT the national language in your home country, please submit one of the following English proficiency tests:
- TOEFL: minimum acceptable score is 79
- IELTS: minimum acceptable score is 6.5
- Duolingo: minimum acceptable score is 115
- ASC English: minimum acceptable level is 6
- PTE: minimum acceptable score is 53
Admission Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing with a minimum 3.000 GPA from an accredited institution
- An introductory course in statistics, with a grade of "B" or better
- Computer literacy with Microsoft Word, email, internet searches and electronic learning platforms and programs
At this time, the Master of Science in Nursing accepts students from Maine, Massachusetts and New Hampshire only. We recommend contacting your home state's licensing agency to identify and determine licensing and certification requirements in your state.
Information for Out-of-State Students
International students are not able to complete this program online. F1 student visas are not issued for this program.
