Meet The Team

UMass Lowell's Student Success Team is here to help you succeed with academic advisors who work with new and returning students, as well as faculty advisors dedicated to supporting students pursuing on-campus programs offered through the Division of Graduate, Online & Professional Studies.

Pauline Christakis

Assistant Dean

Pauline is an alumnae of UMass Lowell and has 25 years of leadership experience building high-performing student and customer experience teams in multiple areas including online higher education, workforce development, and small business management. Pauline holds a B.A. In Psychology from UMass Lowell and an M.Ed. in Counseling from the University of New Hampshire. Her passion is providing outstanding support services to adult and online learners so they can achieve their educational and career goals.
Angela Valvis

Assistant Director

Angela received her M.Ed. from Rivier University and her B.A. from Saint Anselm College. She has over 15 years in higher education with experience in registrar services, advising, disability services and program management. Over the course of her career, she’s had the privilege of working with students at the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels, both in traditional and continuing education settings.

Dru Forbes

Academic Advisor

Dru got his B.S. from the University of Central Florida in Psychology with a minor in nutrition. He is currently enrolled at Emerson, obtaining his MFA in Creative Nonfiction. He has over five years of experience working with high school and college students and over ten years of experience in project management and human resources. In Dru's spare time, he loves to be in nature with his wife and puppy, Beau. He also studies nutrition, environmentalism, and sustainability passionately.
Janine Desgres

Academic Advisor

Janine received a B.A. from American International College. She has over 15 years of experience helping individuals with career exploration, academic planning, and job searching. In her free time, Janine enjoys home improvement projects on her old house, music, and spending time exploring with her Shih Tzu, Zuzu
Hannah Farias

Academic Advisor

Hannah received her B.S. in Psychology from Suffolk University where she mostly focused on adolescent development. Before joining the UMass Lowell team, she was Behavioral Technician where she worked with students of different ages and backgrounds. Hannah enjoys helping students reach their goals. Hannah also enjoys sitting down with a good book while drinking some tea.
Katelyn McCarthy

Academic Advisor

Katelyn is originally from Johnson, Vt. She received her Associate’s from The Culinary Institute of America and her Bachelor’s from Northern Vermont University. She has over ten years of experience in both admissions and advising in higher education. Over the course of her career, she has had the pleasure of working with traditional and continuing education students. She has worked at various colleges and universities including small niche schools, liberal arts colleges, and large selective universities.

Marek Twarzynski

Student Success Coach

Marek received his M.A. in Philosophy from the University of California, Riverside and his B.A. with Honors in Philosophy from Stanford University. Before joining the UMass Lowell team, he worked as an academic advisor at The University of Southern Mississippi, where he developed a passion for promoting student advising and success through coaching and programming. Marek enjoys coffee, hiking, running, and biking, and loves to attend local educational, performing arts, and cultural events with his family.
