Many community and junior college transfer students, who take advantage of MassTransfer or articulation agreements, will not lose any credits in the transfer process and begin their academic journeys at UMass Lowell as college juniors.
  • At UMass Lowell online, we make the transfer process as quick and easy as possible. We do not require essays or application fees and we have a very generous transfer credit policy. Simply fill out the application and submit your transcript(s). If submitting your transcript is a difficulty, we can retrieve your transcripts for you. As soon as your application is complete, you will hear an admission decision within 3 business days.
  • No, the credits you earned at the community college will transfer, but your grade point average (GPA) will not. Your GPA at UMass Lowell is based exclusively on the grades you earn at the courses you complete here.
  • Although you can transfer schools as soon as you complete one term at a community college, there are many advantages to completing your Associate's degree before applying to transfer. As a public institution, your Associate's degree earned at a community college can transfer in easily and seamlessly through MassTransfer. You will also gain the credential of an Associate's degree, which may increase your income if you are working while completing your studies.
  • Yes, if you are an out of state student, your college credits will transfer, as long as the coursework you completed was through a regionally accredited institution. Please see Information for Out-of-State students for more information.
