Course Description

Provides an introduction to the design of a 16 bit microprocessor system. The hardware requirements of interfacing the 8086 microprocessor to memory devices, EPROMs, dynamic RAMs and static RAMs as well as I/O devices are covered. The interface to the various microprocessor peripherals such as the Coprocessor, Bus Arbiter, DMA Controller, Programmable Interrupt Controller, and Dynamic Ram Controller is investigated. The 8086 system is compared to the 68000 system.
