Course Description

A survey of British Literary history from the medieval through the modernist periods.

Prerequisites, Notes & Instructor

  • Section Notes: P: ENGL.1020, or English Majors; In this course, we will brave the impossible: cover over a millennium of British literary history in one semester. We'll approach our subject by studying some of the most significant, influential, and powerful literary texts written by British authors throughout history, from the Middle Ages up through to the 21st century. What connections, we'll ask, do we see amongst the works of poetry, fiction, and drama that we'll be reading with a close attention to their surprising and revealing details? The course grade will be determined by weekly discussions, quizzes, two short papers, and two exams.;
