Course Description

A study of selected works. Authors to be announced each semester.

Prerequisites, Notes & Instructor

  • Prerequisites: ENGL 1020 College Writing II, and Junior Level or higher
  • Section Notes: P: ENGL.1020. Is Satan really the hero of Paradise Lost? What do tales of valiant knights battling fearsome monsters tell us about what it means to live a good life? In this class, we will study two groundbreaking Renaissance epics: The Faerie Queene by Edmund Spenser and Paradise Lost by John Milton. Both of these epics tell dramatic human stories and pose big questions about ethics, spirituality and power. Students will discuss, analyze, research and write as they explore these influential and thought-provoking poems.;
