Course Description
This course focuses of conceptualizing and developing medical devices, including research, clinical needs, engineering, and intellectual property. Students will explore and navigate the principles underlying the successes and challenges of medical device development through project-based learning. In collaboration with faculty from the University of Massachusetts Medical School, students will learn a vast rang of biomedical engineering approaches ranging from non-invasive, invasive, implantable devices for mechanical, chemical, optical, and electrical interfacing for diagnostics and treatment. As required, projects will focus on device design, actuation, instrumentation, control, software to address unmet clinical needs.
