Foundations of STEM Education for Teachers

Course Description

This course equips pre-service teachers with foundational knowledge and practical strategies for integrating STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) into the classroom. Participants will explore innovative teaching methodologies, interdisciplinary approaches, and culturally responsive practices to foster student engagement and achievement in STEM subjects. Through hands-on activities, collaborative projects, and reflective discussions, students will design and implement STEM lesson plans aligned with Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) requirements as well as international STEM standards and best practices. Emphasis will be placed on inquiry-based learning, real-world problem-solving, and the integration of digital tools to enhance learning experiences. The course also addresses equity in STEM education, highlighting strategies for supporting diverse learners and promoting inclusivity. By the end of the course, pre-service and in-service teachers will develop confidence and competence to create dynamic, student-centered STEM learning environments that prepare students for future academic and career success.
