Course Description

Studies the development of the short story from Poe and Chekhov to the present.

  • Section Notes: P: ENGL.1010, ENGL.1020; We'll read classic, contemporary, and cutting edge short stories by authors from diverse backgrounds who compose in an array of styles including, but not limited to, drama, mystery, horror, science fiction, and magical realism. We'll practice close active reading and explore and express our personal reactions to authors' works. Coursework includes short weekly response analyses, quizzes, class discussions, a midterm and a final.;
