Important information about the 2026-2027 FAFSA
On April 26, the Department of Education began implementing a system update that is preventing schools from accessing Free Application for Financial Student Aid records. You may still complete and submit the 2026-2027 FAFSA but we will be unable to provide you with financial aid information until the update is complete, which is anticipated to be in late May.
As a UMass Lowell student, you'll benefit from a return on investment that is among the highest in New England for public institutions. That's because our online tuition rates are among the lowest in the country, and on-campus tuition is about half the cost of private colleges in the area. Plus, you can take advantage of financial aid opportunities to make your education even more affordable, including:

Average Annual Scholarship and Grant Aid Available to Online Students

Undergraduate Students $1,005,000
Graduate Students $500,000

How to Apply for Financial Aid

To qualify for free aid (grants and scholarships) or borrow money to pay for college (student loans), you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form.

While grants and scholarships may only be applied toward the cost of tuition, federal financial assistance can be used to cover a wide array of costs while you are in school, including:

  • Tuition and fees
  • Print and digital textbooks
  • Lab and technology costs
  • Living expenses
