IRC for the Mac OS X Tutorial

1. Ircle is a shareware chat program available for Mac OS X. Go to the following web site to download Ircle:
http://www.ircle.com/download.php

2. Click on the appropriate download link next to American English version.

3. After the download is complete, the program will automatically be expanded and saved on your desktop.

4. On your desktop, open folder named "Ircle_3.1..."

5. Double-click on the green world icon labeled "Ircle_3.1..." to start the program

6. On the bottom right of the screen you will see a window labeled Connections, select any server from the list and click the Edit button:

7. New window will open, in the Nickname and Username fields enter your online course username. In the Password field enter your online course password. At the top of the window next to Server, click Select button:

8. Another window will open with the list of servers, click the Add button at the top right of this window, then fill in the following server information in the fields provided and click OK:

Server: webboard.uml.edu
Port: 6668

9. Click Select button to select the server you just added, then click OK.

10. You will see the server listed in the Connections window on the right, click on the Webboard server name in the list of available servers, then click Connect button at the bottom of this window to connect to this Webboard chat server.

11. From the menu at the top of the screen under Commands select Join.

12. The channel window will open, enter your course number and section in the channel field and your online course password in the Password field and click OK:

13. This will bring you to your course's chatroom, start typing in the box with the blinking cursor and hit "Return" key to post message:
