Delivered 100% online, this four-course certificate program will build your knowledge on how to lead innovative and entrepreneurial projects from inception to commercialization. You will develop new skills and expertise in ideation, market assessment, project management and technical and human resource management. Upon completion, you will acquire a comprehensive understanding of the steps needed to approach innovative and entrepreneurial engineering projects that drive organizational revenue.

The course will emphasize the importance of the entrepreneurial leadership, team characteristics, composition, and dynamics. Students will learn to understand and appreciate their own individual and collective contribution to the success of any entrepreneurial effort. Working together in teams, students will have opportunities to identify innovative and proactive solutions to various problems while learning to manage risk effectively.
Concepts of Robust Design and statistical Design Of Experiments (DOE) as applied to the design and manufacturing of new high technology products. Classical and current methodologies of DOE including Full Factorial, Fractional Factorial, Taguchi, Central Composite and Yates Algorithms. The course will also provide for different methods for experimental design and analysis, including average and variability analysis. Commercial software packages and case studies using industrial experiments will be used to illustrate the material.

Skills are developed enabling engineers to be effective decision makers and technical leaders in an environment where technology management, business operations and strategies for contract compliance are critical to achieving competitive advantage. Elements of the Project Planning and Control System are presented along with analytical methods important for maintaining Projects on schedule and within budget.
In this course students will learn and apply various marketing research techniques that will enable them to make soundly based decisions about new products or services in either an existing firm or new venture. Some of the topics covered include: assessing customer needs, estimating market demand, deciding the features of a proposed product/service and the price that would be most attractive in its target market. The course will provide students with an overview of key marketing concepts, and understanding of the statistical methodology behind market research techniques and practical application of these techniques through cases and projects.

Students enrolled in graduate certificate programs through UMass Lowell must complete all courses indicated in the curriculum outline. Students may complete the certificate program at their own pace by registering for and successfully completing one or more courses each semester, depending upon his/her personal time constraints. Students are required to maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.000 with no more than one course grade below B to receive the certificate.
Online courses meet throughout the year during the Fall, Spring and Summer semesters (see Calendar for details). Online students generally log into their online course website one or more times per week to retrieve lectures and assignments or to participate in a chat session. Graduate certificate courses must be completed within a five-year period with a minimum 3.000 grade point average and no more than one course with a grade below B. Once all courses for a graduate certificate have been completed, students must complete and submit the Graduate Certificate Clearance Form. Students must submit their clearance form to their coordinator. The coordinator will apply them in SIS, Graduation Tracking.
