Overview

This seminar provides an in-depth discussion of commercially available additives incorporated into polymers to modify their processing and end-use properties. It explores the fundamental function and mechanism of each class of additives. The selection criteria and utility of the additives in various commercial applications will be explored. Characterization techniques for determining the additive performance will also be discussed.

The following classes of commercially used additives will be discussed:

  • Antioxidants
  • Thermal stabilizers
  • Light stabilizers
  • Plasticizers
  • Processing aids
  • Anti-blocking agents
  • Anti-slip agents
  • Anti-static agents
  • Flame retardants
  • Colorants
  • Fillers and Reinforcements

Throughout the seminar, we will discuss common questions about these additives: Why use them? What are the mechanisms of action? How is the effect quantified? What is commercially available/used? What applications/products are they used in?
